Climate Club
Despite the distinct economic, political, and cultural characteristics of the East and West, humanity faces a shared and pressing challenge: climate change. This crisis profoundly alters the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature, prompting a reevaluation of true harmony. Climate Club uses digital fashion characters to highlight the survival struggles of representative species from four critical regions—the Ganges, the Amazon, Antarctica, and the Arctic.
The drastic changes these species have faced not only expose the fragility of nature but also serve as a warning for humanity. If we continue to ignore nature's signals, the decline of these species will become a harsh reality for humans. This work advocates for an almost utopian future where the East and West come together, breaking down regional and cultural barriers to focus on environmental care and promote a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Climate Club uses an alternative digital lens to explore these issues, aiming to attract the attention of a younger audience and encourage people to recognize the seriousness of these challenges and inspire action for positive change.
The inspiration stems from the convergence of Eastern and Western cultures and the symbiotic relationships between species. This work reimagines representative species from the Ganges, the Amazon, Antarctica, and the Arctic, using their forms and movements to showcase the harsh impacts of climate change on their survival. The severe consequences of habitat loss, disruption of food chains, and shrinking living spaces vividly reveal the profound threats posed by environmental changes.
A concept that has been threaded through much of my work is the idea of a virtual "Protopia"—a world that sits between utopia and dystopia and focuses on the idea of change, of ‘being better than yesterday’. This philosophy is integral to the aims of this work, which seeks to bring not just the East and West, but the entire world and these species together to create a better tomorrow. This digital representation provides a captivating visual experience that transcends age, language, and cultural backgrounds, allowing viewers to appreciate the aesthetics while deeply feeling the urgency of environmental and species protection. This visual representation not only aims to spark widespread attention but also strives to evoke a global sense of shared responsibility, encouraging more people to take active steps towards creating a better environment for future generations.
